A Sauna Delivery in the Middle of Nowhere

When my husband, Silas, and I opened Nowhere, we had a vision: create a place where time slows, where the air is thick with the scent of wild rosemary, and where we could swap the chaos of our daily life for something simpler, quieter—something restorative.

Nowhere is already that place. But we always wanted to bring something a little extra for ourselves and our guests. Enter Kuut: a handcrafted, premium wood sauna from Estonia, delivered straight to our doorstep by truck after a journey of more than 3,000 kilometers. Because nothing says relaxation quite like stepping into a piping-hot sauna after a day spent hiking the coastal cliffs, surfing the Atlantic, or simply hanging under the cork trees.

Why a Sauna?

Wellness travel isn’t just a buzzword; it’s a movement. More and more, travelers are looking for experiences that leave them better than they arrived—whether that’s a week at a yoga retreat, a digital detox in the mountains, or simply an accommodation that offers a way to unwind beyond the standard hotel spa.

Saunas, in particular, have been a staple of wellness culture for centuries, from the steamy bathhouses of Turkey to the wood-clad sweat rooms of Finland. And for good reason: studies show that regular sauna use can improve circulation, help with muscle recovery, and even boost mood. It’s heat therapy at its finest, and there’s something undeniably primal about sweating out the stress of the world in a wood-scented cocoon.

Plus, after spending time in Estonia myself, where sauna culture is practically a birthright, I knew we wanted that authentic experience at Nowhere.

The Journey from Estonia to Portugal

Kuut Sauna is known for creating some of the most beautifully designed, plug 'n play saunas in the world—think sleek, minimalist wood craftsmanship meets Nordic durability. When we placed our order, we braced ourselves for what we assumed would be a logistical nightmare: importing a full-sized sauna across the continent.

However, the process was as relaxing as the sauna itself, as Kuut took care of all of the logistics. Our sauna arrived via truck, having crossed borders and landscapes, from the dense pine forests of Estonia down through the heart of Europe to Portugal’s sun-soaked southern coast. Waiting in a nearby parking lot, where we had arranged local transportation to deliver it to the house as the roads are too narrow, perched on the back of a flatbed, felt like a momentous occasion—like welcoming a new member to the Nowhere family.

Once onsite, we had the sauna, which comes already preassembled, placed under a large cork tree with views from the picture window down into the lower field.

We knew Nowhere was always meant to be more than just a place to stay—it’s a place to feel good. The sauna? It’s just another way we’re making that happen as guests fall into an effortless rhythm: a morning surf, an afternoon nap, and an evening sauna session, often followed by a cold rinse under the outdoor shower, set against a backdrop of cork trees and a sky so full of stars it hardly seems real.

If you’re interested in your own home wellness escape, Kuut Saunas are completely plug ‘n play and can be delivered internationally, bringing the Estonian sauna tradition to your backyard.
